《介紹》

“If I Never Knew You” is the love theme and the second single fromDisney's 1995 animated feature Pocahontas. It is the final track on thePocahontas Soundtrack.

The song was originally developed for the prison scene wherePocahontas visits John Smith before he is to be put to death for the allegedmurder of Kocoum, a trusted Powhatan warrior whom Pocahontas was going tomarry. The musical number, which was about 90% animated, was to be a duetperformed by the pair as they acknowledge their love for each other. Becauseduring test screenings with child audiences their attention "seemed towander from the film", Alan Menken, the composer of the songs for Disney'sPocahontas, suggested it be cut because he also felt that it slowed the pace ofthe movie, with another song, Savages, not five minutes after. Though cut fromthe movie itself, If I Never Knew You was still performed by Jon Secada andShanice at the end credits and released as a single.

In 2005, Disney released the tenth anniversary edition ofPocahontas, which had the song fully animated and integrated into the film, butwas an optional feature that you could refuse and watch the original theatricalversion instead, due to seamless branching. It was performed by Mel Gibson andJudy Kuhn within the film's narrative. It was recorded for the original film in1995.

“If I Never Knew You”原本是電影中主角Pocahontas去帳篷中探望被抓並且即將在第二天早上被處死的John Smith時為了強調兩人情感而創作的一段美妙的二重唱。不過最早，據說為了照顧青少年觀眾，把這個片段剪掉了，而只在片尾中留Jon Secada及Shanice合唱的流行版。直到2005年發行10週年的DVD紀念版時，這個被剪掉的片段才又補上。

《推薦原因》

The First time I heard the song was not inthe film but in the original soundtrack CD, I was surprised to this beautifullove theme, and felt unfortunate that this melody didn’t perform in the film. However,Walt Disney released the full one in 2005, which include this theme in the, andmake the more completed. I like the lyric of the song; I think it is awonderful thing to meet someone, and the one that may had you have a differentlife if you’ve never meet him or her.

人生中總會與他人有所相遇相知。現在想想，如果我們從未與現在身旁的人認識，我們的生命是否就不是現在的樣子，而會走向別的方向呢?但是既已相知，便還是感謝能與他們認識。
