    Akon出生於美國，但於塞內加爾長大的阿肯，其後經常於美國及塞內加爾兩地徘徊，最後他的家庭正式搬至新澤西州澤西市，因此他同時懂得英文、法文及沃洛夫語。他的父親Mor Thiam是一位相當傳奇的打擊樂/爵士樂手，擅長演奏名為Djembe的非洲傳統鼓，被音樂界譽為「無可匹敵」，阿肯深受父親的影響，在這樣重視真正音樂藝術與傳統演奏的環境長大。一開始他投入數種打擊樂器的演奏，隨後還是愛上了嘻哈音樂與文化。他於15歲錄下他的第一首歌《Operations of Nature》，後來因年少輕狂犯下偷車的罪行，不久後因偷竊及運載毒品而被拘捕，還好入獄後的他開始大徹大悟，不但在獄中得到很多音樂新靈感，還利用蹲苦窯的時間思考未來和努力創作。獲釋後，Akon開始於家中創作及錄製歌曲，其製作的錄音帶使他加入SRC及環球唱片，並於2004年6月推出他的首張唱片【Trouble/愛情煩惱】。這張專輯揉合了Akon的柔滑聲線、 西方黑人唱腔以及東岸與南方的節拍。睽違2年後阿肯推出第二張大碟【Konvicted/寂寞有罪】，專輯中與史努比狗狗合唱的《I Wanna Love You好好愛妳 》以及與阿姆合作的《Smack That 打屁屁》分佔美國告牌單曲榜的冠亞軍，平了天后瑪麗亞凱莉光輝年代所創下的記錄。阿肯走紅之後，各方合作的邀約不斷，除了阿姆之外，還包括了艾爾頓強和關史蒂芬妮，美國傳媒盛讚阿肯的輝煌成績已經可以和阿姆、五角、和尼力等嘻哈巨星相提並論，並讚譽阿肯為「塞內加爾新國寶」。

背景：

在這首歌中Akon除了向Gwen Stefani道歉外，也對他的妻子小孩道歉，因為Akon常常不在他妻子身邊陪她；也向他的媽媽道歉，因為他之前的一些犯罪行為(搶劫、毒品交易..)讓他的母親難過。
跟關史蒂芬妮（Gwen Stefani）道歉的原因是：在Gwen邀請Akon一起巡迴演出時， Akon在千里達的一家俱樂部，跟一個年僅15歲的牧師女兒在舞台上有不雅的動作，而Akon的工作人員將這一段表演上傳至網路上，然後電視節目也播出，引起一堆人抨擊他的行為， Akon說他不知道那個女孩才15歲，因為該俱樂部規定18歲以上才能進場，而且那女孩的穿著打扮都像已成年。

    東方人的內向，常常把想說的話壓抑在心底，akon的這首歌，藉由歌曲傳達出對他父母、家庭、曾經傷害過的人的歉意。也許這些遲來的道歉，無法挽救甚麼但是卻可以給人一種溫馨的感受。也是對我的一種警惕，不要到錯過的時候才發現那時的美好！
