Serenade No. 13 for strings in G major, K. 525 (Eine kleine Nachtmusik)

The Serenade No. 13 for strings in G major, K. 525 was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1787. The work is more commonly known by the title Eine kleine Nachtmusik. This theme is the representative one of Mozart's compositions. Mozart had written 13 Serenade in his life, most of them were composed for customer’s requirements, but only the last one is written for his own creative ideas.

In music, a serenade (or sometimes serenata) is, in its most general sense, a musical composition, and/or performance, in someone's honor. Serenades are typically calm, light music.

In the oldest usage, which survives in informal form to the present day, a serenade is a musical greeting performed for a lover, friend, person of rank or other person to be honored. The classic serenade usage would be from a lover to his lady love through a window. It was considered an evening piece, one to be performed on a quiet and pleasant evening. Music performed followed no one particular form, except that it was typically sung by one person accompanying himself on a portable instrument, most likely a guitar, lute or other plucked instrument.

Till the late eighteenth century, it strayed from its original "function", and evolved into a purely musical style for social entertainment purposes, as "Divertimento" and "Nocturne". It mix the elements of the Suite, march, minuet and sonata style, feature between Suite and Symphony, and it’s usually written for small ensemble. Serenade is more suitable to play outdoors for the open-air banquet that uppers held in the garden.
